This takes an identity to be a one-fold case of consistency, signified by \u003cem\u003eit\u003c\/em\u003e, reflexively by \u003cem\u003eitself\u003c\/em\u003e, and with the \u003cem\u003eis\u003c\/em\u003e functioning as a copula. My proposal is that Wittgenstein's thesis as an identity case is not a monistic consistency case signified by \u003cem\u003eit\u003c\/em\u003e, but is a paradox case signified by \u003cem\u003eis\u003c\/em\u003e. I have taken some 500 of Wittgenstein's language games in \u003cem\u003eInvestigations\u003c\/em\u003e to evidence the \u003cem\u003eidentity-as-paradox\u003c\/em\u003e thesis versus key philosophers of the western tradition, and have re-interpreted the games talk of each in terms of the identity-as-paradox thesis.
