DEAN BEEBY is an independent journalist in Ottawa, a specialist in freedom-of-information laws, and the author of six previous non-fiction books, most recently Murder in Renfrew County (2024). He worked at The Canadian Press news agency, 1983 to 2014, including as Atlantic bureau chief in Halifax and Deputy Bureau Chief in Ottawa; and at the CBC Parliamentary Bureau, 2014-2019. He is currently a contributing writer for the Investigative Journalism Foundation.

IAN BAILEY is a reporter with The Globe and Mail’s Ottawa Bureau. This is his latest assignment in a journalism career that has taken him across Canada, from a posting as the St. John’s correspondent for The Canadian Press, through CP assignments in Toronto and Vancouver. Also in Vancouver, he reported for The National Post and the Province, where he covered federal and provincial politics. He joined the Globe and Mail in Vancouver in 2007.
